Jerry Mulderig – Rider University

Baseball, Jr., OF, 6-4, 205, Langhorne, Pa./Council Rock HS South

Rider University junior Jerry Mulderig, a Behavioral Neuroscience major, is excelling on the baseball field as well as in the classroom, and before heading to medical school is expected to be offered a chance to play professional baseball.  Mulderig has led the Rider Broncs (26-16) to first place (11-4) in the MAAC as the ultimate utility player, with 20 games played in the outfield, 20 more as the designated hitter and seven as a pitcher, including four starts on the mound. As a left-handed hitter, Mulderig ranks among the MAAC leaders in batting (.364), on base percentage (.462) and stolen bases (14), but increases the attendance at home games with the addition of six to 12 scouts with their radar guns when he is scheduled to pitch. In a recent outing Mulderig pitched three perfect innings, striking out three.  Mulderig (3-2) recently started on the mound and batted clean up in a 6-3 loss at the University of Maryland.  At the plate he had four of Rider’s eight hits and his single gave Rider a 1-0 lead against the Terps.  He pitched three and a third innings at Maryland, allowing four hits and a walk with a strikeout. He left the mound with Rider trailing 3-2. Despite his success and all the attention from the scouts, Mulderig has only pitched seven times this year, a total of just 14 innings, and has nine strikeouts. In the classroom, Mulderig possesses a 3.34 grade point average and has plans for medical school when his playing career is over.
