MAAC Player of the Week
Sarah Schutz, Iona, Fr., IF, Tarpon Springs, FL/East Lake
Freshman Sarah Schutz collected six hits this week for the Gaels, including four for extra bases, resulting in a team leading three home runs and nine runs batted in. Schutz went 3-8 over two games in a doubleheader at Hartford, including a 2-3, three RBI performance in game one, where she connected on her third home run of the season. In game two, Schutz went yard again, this time driving in two in the contest. Schutz had an RBI in the Gaels' game two victory over Siena on Saturday, before two hits against Manhattan in the game one of the doubleheader. Schutz went 2-4 in the contest, connecting on a solo home run, her fifth of the season and fourth in the last seven games, before pushing across a go-ahead two run ground rule double later in the contest.
MAAC Pitcher of the Week
Emily Osterhaus, Marist, Sr., Pitcher, Suwanee, Ga./Peachtree Ridge
In a week where Marist faced three of the Northeast’s best softball programs, the senior captain was heavily relied upon by the Red Foxes to carry the load in the circle. In each and every one of her appearances, Osterhaus threw complete games and allowed one or less earned runs. After going head-to-head with 2012 All-American Olivia Galati in a non-conference duel at Hofstra on April 4 and Osterhaus was called upon to throw all 17 innings of Sunday’s MAAC opening doubleheader versus Fairfield. In all three occasions, the right-hander kept her opponents’ offenses contained and off balance enough to give Marist a chance to win each contest. For the week, Osterhaus threw 23.0 innings and allowed just two earned runs for a 0.61 ERA, while striking out 10 combined batters and posting a 2-1 record. She augmented her pitching line with a flawless fielding percentage of 1.000 as she went 15-for-15 in defensive opportunities.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
Elena Bowman, Manhattan, Fr., C/IF, San Mateo, Calif./Aragon
Bowman hit .545 with three home runs and seven RBIs last weekend, as the Jaspers opened MAAC play by sweeping both Saint Peter’s and Iona. She had two homers in game one of the twinbill against Saint Peter’s on Saturday, a solo shot in the first and a two-run blast in the third. Bowman picked up another RBI when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded later in the third inning, then went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored in the second game. After belting a two-run homer in the first game against Iona on Sunday, she went 2-for-5 with an RBI in the nightcap. Overall, Bowman slugged 1.455 and had an on-base percentage of .688 in the four games.
