Marist Wins 2013 MAAC Softball Championship

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Third-seeded Marist College earned the league’s automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I Softball Championship with a 4-1 win over second-seeded Fairfield University in in game six of the 2013 MAAC Softball Championship at Marist’s Softball Park at Gartland Field.

Marist took a 3-0 lead over Fairfield in the bottom of the third inning when MAAC Rookie of the Year Nicole Cheek knocked a three-run homer deep over the centerfield fence.  The Stags made their mark in the top of the fifth with an RBI single by Kristen Filicia, but the Red Foxes added one more run in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a solo home run by Danielle Koltz.

Emily Osterhaus, the Most Outstanding Player, improved to 14-9 with the win.  Fairfield’s Rae Ball finished the year at 14-10 in the circle.

Joining Osterhaus on the All-Tournament Team are teammates Maureen Duddy, Aly Klemmer and Koltz. Fairfield was represented by Filicia, Brianna Levick and Sammy Ruffolo.  Shannon Jones and Jessika-Jo Sandrini from Siena College along with Jenn Sansano and Alexis Wayne from Niagara University also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
