MAAC Player of the Week

MIKE FISH, SIENA

Sr., OF, 6-1, 185, Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem

Fish continued to prove he’s one of the league’s most imposing hitters with a dominant effort in the Saints’ MAAC Tournament clinching sweep at Saint Peter’s. The senior hit .500 (8-for-16) with three home runs, seven RBI and a 1.188 slugging percentage. Fish began the weekend by going 4-for-7 with two home runs, five RBI and five runs scored in the Saints’ 16-4 rout on Saturday. He was 4-for-9 in the doubleheader sweep Sunday, including a momentous home run into the win in the final game of the series. Fish scored nine runs on the week, stole two bases and played a flawless centerfield. Fish ran his hitting streak to 11 games, has hit safely in 23 of the last 24 contests and raised his batting average to a team-best .371, 69 points higher than his closest teammate.

MAAC Pitcher of the Week

MATT GAGE, SIENA

So., LHP, 6-4, 255, Gloversville, N.Y./Broadalbin-Perth

The reigning MAAC Pitcher of the Week followed up his dominant shutout effort of Canisius with one of the top regular-season performances in MAAC history. Gage struck out 16 batters as Siena clinched a MAAC Tournament bid with an 8-2 win in the series finale with Saint Peter’s. The sophomore southpaw allowed just three hits, and after the Peacocks scored their only two runs on a sixth inning homer, he retired the last 10 men he faced. Gage lowered his MAAC ERA to 1.72 and has struck out 52 men in 56 innings of league work.

MAAC Rookie of the Week

ALEX GODZAK, CANISIUS

Fr., LHP, 5-9, 188, Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill

For the second straight start, Godzak threw six scoreless innings and picked up the win in the Griffs’ 22-1 victory over Niagara in the middle game of the weekend series. The 5-foot-9 freshman gave up four hits and walked one while striking out three and needing 73 pitches to earn his third consecutive win. Godzak has not allowed a run in his last 17.1 innings pitched.
