Canisius Earns 14-7 Victory Over Siena in Women's Lacrosse

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Top-seeded Canisius College defeated fourth-seeded Siena College, 14-7, in the first semifinal of the 2013 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship played at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field on the campus of Marist College.

Senior midfielder Morgan Leonard led the Griffs with five goals, all scored in the first half. Meghan Cuddy netted three goals on the day, while MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Tori Quinn and junior Maria Kotas added two more goals each. Lindsey Morgan and Whitley Perry rounded out the offensive effort for Canisius with one goal apiece. 

Siena got a pair of goals from both Lauren Smith and Maggie Deloria, and one more each by Julia Sirianni, Shannon Pfohl and Sarah Croutier.

Canisius goalkeeper Kayla Scully made seven saves in goal, while Siena netminder Ashley Holdridge made 11 stops.

The Griffs, in their quest for their third consecutive MAAC title, will face the winner of today’s second semifinal between second-seeded Fairfield University and third-seeded Marist in the title game on Sunday, May 5 at 1 p.m., live on MAAC.TV.

The winner of the 2013 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship earns the league’s automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The NCAA selection show will take place on Sunday, May 5 at 9 p.m. on NCAA.com.
