Detroit Earns First Spot in MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship Game

Buffalo, NY – The fourth seeded University of Detroit Mercy Titans defeated the first seeded Marist College Red Foxes 7-6 in the first semifinal game of the 2013 Men's Lacrosse Championship at Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.
The Titans trailed early as the Red Foxes scored two quick goals, but rallied in the first half to tie the game 2-2 heading into half. Detroit did not lead until 13:15 remaining in the fourth quarter when Ryan Callaghan scored the go ahead goal with an assist from Brandon Beauregard. The Titans would not trail in the game from that point forward. The 2013 Co-Long Stick Midfielder of the Year Jordan Houtby added a goal for the Titans in the game. The Pepsi Max Player of the Game was awarded to A.J. Levell for his impressive 17 saves on the game.
The Red Foxes held the lead twice in the game, but were unable to get past the Detroit defense. Marist was able to tie the score with 3:28 remaining (6-6) after a goal by Jim Marks. The final goal of the game came from Detriot’s Mike Birney with 1:25 remaining to give the Titans the win and end the Red Foxes’ run.
Detroit will play the winner of the semifinal of the second seeded Jacksonville Dolphins and the third seeded Siena Saints.
