Marist Tops Fairfield, 7-6 in OT, in Women's Lacrosse

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Third-seeded Marist College defeated second-seeded Fairfield University,7-6 in overtime, in the second semifinal of the 2013 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship played at Marist’s Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field.

Jamie Romano scored the eventual game-winning goal, finding the back of the net with one second remaining in the first overtime period.

The Red Foxes also got two goals apiece tonight from Ashley Miller and Kirsten Viscount, along with one goal by Allison Gionta and Amanda Tuck. Gionta, Miller, Amanda Tuck and Tierney Larson were each credited with one assist.

Fairfield was led by Jenna Slowey with two goals. Jenna Fuchs, Courtney Chmil, Chloe Mangan and Amanda Best each registered one goal for the Stags.  Fuchs also had one assist this evening.

Marist goalkeeper Ashley Casiano made 12 saves in goal, while Fairfield’s Katie Keenan made six stops between the pipes.

Marist will play top-seeded Canisius College in the title game on Sunday, May 5 at 1 p.m., live on MAAC.TV.  Both programs are vying for their third league title in school history, with Canisius taking home the league crown in 2011 and 2012, while Marist previously won the conference championship in 2008 and 2010.

The winner of the 2013 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship earns the league’s automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The NCAA selection show will take place on Sunday, May 5 at 9 p.m. on NCAA.com.
