Canisius Wins 2013 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Top-seeded Canisius College defeated third-seeded Marist College, 10-9, in the title game of the 2013 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship played at Marist’s Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field.
With the win, Canisius became first school in MAAC history to win three consecutive women’s lacrosse championships.
Maria Kotas, the championship’s Most Valuable Player, scored a game-high four goals to lead the Golden Griffins. Megan Leonard and Lindsey Morgan recorded two goals apiece, while Tori Quinn and Meghan Cuddy added one goal each for Canisius.
The Red Foxes were led by Amanda Tuck and Kirsten Viscount, who netted three goals apiece. Jamie Romano recorded two goals, and Allison Gionta had one goal for Marist.
Kayla Scully registered six saves in goal for Canisius, while Marist’s Ashley Casiano posted seven saves.
Canisius earned the league’s automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The NCAA selection show will take place on Sunday, May 5 at 9 p.m. on NCAA.com.
