Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Third-seeded Marist College earned a 3-1 win over second-seeded Fairfield University in game one of the 2013 MAAC Softball Championship at Marist’s Softball Park at Gartland Field.

Alyssa Zahka singled to left field in the top of the first inning to allow Maureen Duddy to score the first run of the day for Marist.  Fairfield then tied it up in the bottom of the first with Lauren Liseth knocking a home run over the right field fence.

Following an almost four-hour rain delay, Christina Lausch recorded her own home run, sailing the ball over the left field fence to put the Red Foxes ahead, 2-1, in the top of the second.

In the top of the third, Zahka recorded another RBI single to allow Duddy to cross home plate for the final run scored of the day for Marist.

Marist’s Emily Osterhaus (12-9) earned the win, fanning seven batters on the day.  Rae Ball (13-9) gave up six hits while striking out seven.

Marist will play the winner of today’s game between #1 Siena College and #4 Niagara University in Game 3, which is slated for Friday, May 10, at 11:00 a.m.  Fairfield will play the loser of today’s second game tomorrow at approximately 1:00 p.m.
