EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and its digital partner NeuLion have reached a multi-year agreement to broadcast MAAC digital content in high definition (HD) format. The revised agreement extends the MAAC’s partnership with NeuLion through 2016 for all eight participating schools and the MAAC, and will include for the first time Fairfield University and Monmouth University.
The agreement will allow MAAC content to become accessible on multiple devices, including mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, as well as standard laptop and desktop computers. NeuLion is recognized as a leading enabler and provider of live and on-demand content to internet connected devices.
“This expanded partnership with NeuLion is another progressive step for the MAAC and our fan base,” said Bill Maher, Director of Athletics at Canisius College and chairman of the league’s Technology Committee. “This agreement will ensure that MAAC.TV will have league wide content available to our fans on the HD platform, ensuring that the MAAC will remain at the forefront of this advancing technology.”
MAAC HD digital content is now offered on the official websites of eight of the MAAC’s 11 institutions. Canisius, Fairfield, Iona, Manhattan, Marist, Monmouth, Rider and Saint Peter’s all offer live content. In addition, MAAC.TV also offers live video from select conference championships. The MAAC will also offer interviews, highlights and features from championships and other events.
“The MAAC has always sought to be a leader in the use of technology to promote its member institutions, student-athletes and coaches,” said Richard J. Ensor, Esq., commissioner of the MAAC. “This new agreement with NeuLion moves the MAAC to the clearest HD broadcast model, with over 400 contests in many of the league’s 26 sports.”
In 2013-14, MAAC.TV’s package will offer a majority of the conference’s championships available in HD in the upcoming year. In 2014, all MAAC men’s and women’s basketball will be available in HD.
“We are excited to be entering the 3rd year of MAAC.TV and appreciate the commitment from the conference and their member institutions,” said Ed O’Brien, Vice President, NeuLion. “The 2013/14 season will be a huge step forward for the product as both the quality is being upgraded and the distribution platforms expanded.”
