MAAC Offensive Player of the Week
Kristin Engelke, Quinnipiac
Senior, Forward, 5-7, Medford, N.J./Shawnee
Fifth-year senior Engelke was named to the Asics Invitational All-Tournament Team after scoring in the 5-1 loss to No. 5 Syracuse before tallying a goal and one assist in a 6-4 win against La Salle in the consolation game of the tournament. Through two games, Engelke is the only Bobcat to score a goal in both of Quinnipiac’s games played and leads the team with two goals and one assist for the year. Additionally, the two goals give Engelke 14 for her career, good for 17th place all-time at Quinnipiac. She also has 32 career points for 21st in program history.
MAAC Defensive Player of the Week
Amanda Westerweller, Monmouth
Junior, Goalkeeper, 5-7, Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel
In just her second career start in cage, Westerweller kept the Hawks in the game at No. 15 Northeastern University, turning away a career-high seven shots. The local product did not allow a goal until the 37th minute when the Huskies knotted the score at 1-1. The junior recorded a .778 save percentage against Northeastern.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
Kailyn O’Brien, Rider
Freshman, Forward, 5-2, Southampton, N.J./Seneca
O’Brien started her first two collegiate games, scoring one goal in each as Rider, the preseason conference favorite, opened the 2013 season 2-0. At Colgate on August 30th, O’Brien took a pass from senior Alicia Govannicci and scored the game-leading goal with 16 minutes remaining as Rider took a 2-1 lead in the eventual 3-2 win over the Raiders. On the road against Georgetown on September 1st, O’Brien continued her strong play, taking a pass from All-Region senior Sandra Penas to give the Broncs a 4-0, opening half lead against the Hoyas. For the week, O’Brien had four shots, three on goal and two of which that hit the back of the cage.
