Iona Gaels Win Women's Cross Country Championship

HOLMDEL, N.J. - The Iona College women’s cross country team won the 2014 MAAC Championship at Holmdel Park in Holmdel, N.J. Iona’s Kate Avery repeated as the women's individual title winner.
Iona earned its 10th straight conference title with 20 points. Following the Gaels in second was the Quinnipiac Bobcats, tallying 73 points. Marist earned third place with 93 points.
Avery, a junior from Newton Aycliffe, England, won the women's 6k race with a time of 19:15.26. Along with Avery, fellow Gael teammates Tara Jameson and Rosie Clarke finished in the top three at the race. Jameson clocked in with a time of 20:57.82 to earn second and Clarke finished with a time of 20:58.65, good for third.
Marist College's Head Coach Peter Colaizzo was named the 2014 Anaconda Sports MAAC Women's Coach of the Year.
