Gomez, Powhida, Bailey and Berardelli with Weekly Awards

EDISON, N.J. – Jonathan Gomez from Saint Peter’s University is the MAAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while Bethany Powhida from Marist College is the MAAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week. The MAAC Men’s Diver of the Week is Wayco Bailey a junior from Rider University. Megan Berardelli from Marist University is the MAAC Women’s Diver of the Week.
The MAAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week is Jonathan Gomez from Saint Peter’s University. Gomez won five individual events and swam the opening leg of the winning 400-free relay to help the Saint Peter’s men’s swimming and diving team to three dual meet wins over the weekend. The sophomore won the 400 IM (4:07.22) and the 100 back (53.13) while swimming the opening leg of the winning 400-free relay team (3:14.30) to led the Peacocks to a 131-96 win against NJIT on Friday and give head coach Brie Von Rosendahl her first win as a head coach. The 2013 MAAC Most Outstanding Swimmer then won the 200 IM (2:12.08), the 100 fly (52.16) and the 500 free (4.48.44) to help the men’s team to a 133-92 win against Manhattan and a 155.5-73.5 victory against Montclair State on Saturday.
Bethany Powhida from Marist College is the MAAC Women’s Swimmer of the week. Powhida won two individual events and led off for Marist’s first-place 400-yard medley relay team in a 177-115 win over Fairfield. The Red Foxes’ relay team kicked off the meet with a time of 4:03.43 and Powhida won the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle events with times of 5:09.54 and 10:38.14 respectively. She helped Marist score 29 points at the dual meet.
Wayco Bailey from Rider University is the MAAC Men’s Diver of the. Bailey won both the one-meter (290.95) and three-meter dive (300.10) as Rider competed against La Salle and at Delaware this past Saturday. Bailey helped keep the Broncs competitive against Delaware with Rider only losing the dual by five points, 151-146.4
From Marist College the MAAC Women’s Diver of the Week is Megan Berardelli. Berardelli picked up her first collegiate victory in the 3-meter dive during Marist’s 177-115 win over Fairfield on Nov. 8. She scored a personal best 273.75 points for a first-place finish while also taking second in the 1-meter dive with 243.75 points.
