Rookie of the Week
Margot Hetzke, Siena
Fr., F, 5-11, Penfield, N.Y./Penfield
Hetzke had arguably the most impressive collegiate debut in Siena College Women’s Basketball history Friday. The freshman forward from Penfield, N.Y. exploded for a double-double, scoring 29 points and adding 11 rebounds to rally the Saints past Mid-American Conference Eastern Division preseason favorite Buffalo on the road 58-50. Hetzke scored exactly half of the Saints’ points, and rallied the Green and Gold from a seven-point deficit with under five minutes remaining. Siena scored the final 15 points of the game over the last 4:41, thanks in large part to Hetzke. During that decisive stretch during crunch time, Hetzke scored five points including the game-tying putback with 2:13 left and added three key rebounds.
