The 2014 All-MAAC Volleyball Teams Announced

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Malia McGuinness from Manhattan College has been named the 2014 MAAC Player of the Year by the league's head coaches and headlines this season's All-MAAC teams.

McGuinness, a senior outside hitter from Kailua, Hawaii, leads the conference in kills (441), kills per set (3.74), points (481.0), points per set (4.08) and double-doubles (21). She also recorded 419 total digs, good for eighth in the league and averaged 3.55 digs per set, good for 10th in the league. McGuinness was named Player of the Week twice this season, on Oct. 14 and Oct. 28.

Canisius College senior Emily Litwin has been selected as the 2014 MAAC Libero of the Year. Litwin leads the MAAC in digs per set, registering 5.15 digs per set overall and 5.36 digs per set in conference matches. The Williamsville, New York native ranks second in the MAAC with 360 total digs in league play and third in the MAAC with 520 digs total. Litwin was a member of the 2013 All-MAAC Second team and was named Libero of the Week on Nov 4th this season.

Marist College sophomore Amanda Schlegel was named the 2014 MAAC Setter of the Year. Schlegel appeared and started in every match for the Red Foxes and leads the league with 50 total service aces. She also ranks 2nd in the MAAC in total assists with 1,024 and in assists per set averaging 10.56. The Austin, Texas native ranks second on her team with 2.26 digs per set and was named MAAC Player of the Week once this season on Sept. 30.

Fairfield University’s Megan Theiller claims the 2014 MAAC Rookie of the Year award. Theiller lead her team and all freshmen in attack with 260 total kills. The freshman outside hitter also leads her team in points registering 293, and in serve percentage with a .969 percent and ranks second on her team in digs averaging 3.05 digs per set. Theiller was named MAAC Rookie of the Week five times this season on Sept. 9, Sept. 16, Sept. 23, Oct. 14, and Nov. 4.

Marist College head coach Tom Hanna has been named the 2014 Lids Team Sports MAAC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. In his ninth season at the helm of the Red Foxes, Hanna led the team to a 15-3 conference record and overall record of 23-5. Marist also set a school single season record for most wins in a season in route to the regular season championship title for the second consecutive year.

Joining McGuinness on the All-MAAC First Team are Fairfield University's Caitlin Stapleton, Marist College’s Schlegel, Courtney Shaw, and Mackenzie Stephens, and Siena College's Jacqueline Skeen and Meghann Wright.

The All-MAAC Second Team includes Canisius College's Rachel Kline and Litwin, Fairfield University’s Carsen Mata and Hadley Orr, Iona College’s Catrina Warren, Rider University’s Kaitlyn Griffin, and Siena College’s Haley Howell.

The All-MAAC Rookie Team members feature Theiller, Niagara University’s Alexis Gray, Rylee Hunt, and Nicole Matheis, Rider University’s Emma Aldaya and Jennifer Borio, and Siena College’s Samantha Pethokoukis.
