Wilson Offensive Player of the Week
Machel Baker, Quinnipiac
Sr., F, 5’11, Spanish Town, Jamaica/St. Jago High School
During the week of October 27th, senior Machel Baker recorded five points off two goals and an assist. In the first game against Siena, with 13 minutes remaining in regulation, Baker scored the insurance goal to secure a Quinnipiac victory. Goalkeeper Borja Angoitia had a huge punt downfield to Baker who took a touch that bounced over the defender's leg while the senior stepped around the opposing player and chipped the keeper off the bounce. Baker also fed his teammate Raphael Carvalho with a beautiful touch to find him with room for the game winning goal. Against Iona, in the 54th minute early in the second half, Baker put QU on the board with an unassisted strike from 25 yards out into the lower left corner. The goal was the first of the game and gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
Wilson Defensive Player of the Week
Borja Angoitia, Quinnipiac
Sr., GK, 6’2, Bilbao, Spain/Erandillo and Wasilla
Senior goalkeeper Borja Angoitia registered two wins during the week of October 27. The keeper recorded his seventh shutout of the year against Siena at home. He provided five saves and his second career assist in the win. Angoitia had a huge punt downfield to find Machel Baker for the second goal of the game. He tallied his second win on route to helping the Bobcats clinch the MAAC regular season title at Iona. Angoitia notched a season high eight saves and provided a .929 save percentage.
Wilson Rookie of the Week
Lucian Preis, Canisius
Fr., M, 5-10, Lӧrrach, Germany/Hebel-Gymnasium
One of the team's anchors in the midfield, Preis registered an assist in the Griffs' only game of the week, a 2-0 victory against Saint Peter's. His pass helped set up Derek Maier's goal in the second half, while the rookie also helped anchor the team's seventh shutout of the season.
