MAAC Announces 2014 Women's Soccer Yearly Awards

EDISON, N.J. - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has announced the 2014 women’s soccer major award winners and All-MAAC teams, as selected by the leagues 11 head coaches.
Headlining the major award winners and All-MAAC First Team was junior midfielder Tara Ballay of Rider University who was named 2014 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year. Ballay finished the regular season with a league leading 11 goals and tied for first in the league in points with 24 total. She added two assists and led the league with 1.85 points per outing.
Senior Alexa Freguletti from Monmouth University was selected as the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and joins Ballay on the All-MAAC First Team. Freguletti ranked third for the Hawks with five goals and three assists for 13 points. She was a key member of a defense that led the conference in shutouts (11) on the season.
Siena College’s senior goalkeeper Taylor Booth was chosen as the MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year and an All-MAAC First Team member. In her final season in Loudonville, Booth ranked second in the league with 103 saves and third in the league with 5.15 saves per game. She finished fourth in the MAAC with a .798 save percentage and also recorded the fourth most shutouts in the league with six on the season.
Monmouth University freshman forward Rachelle Ross was named the MAAC Rookie of the Year. Ross ranked third in the conference in scoring her first season with seven goals and five assists for 19 points. Ross was also selected to the All-MAAC Second Team and All-Rookie Team this season.
Head coach Krissy Turner of Monmouth University was named the Lids Team Sports MAAC Coach of the Year by her peers for the second consecutive season. Turner led the Hawks to a 9-1 league mark and 14-4 overall record in route to the regular season crown and overall number one seed in the MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship. Monmouth is currently ranked eighth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Northeast Region’s most recent poll.
Joining Freguletti on the All-MAAC First team at the back position are Sali Ayinde, of Iona, Monmouth teammate Kim Clemmer, Danielle Kennedy of Niagara, and Tara Sobierajski of Siena. At midfield joining Ballay are Fairfield’s Michelle Kowalski, and Monmouth’s Brianne Boyle and Julie Spracklin. Manhattan’s Aislinn McIlvenny, Monmouth’s Alexis McTamney, and Rider’s Michelle Iacono are the forwards. The first team goalkeeper includes Kathleen Early from Fairfield joining Booth.
The All-MAAC Second Team backs are Anna Borea, Karolyn Collins, and Megan O’Brien from Fairfield, Monique Goncalves and Colleen Howard from Monmouth, Haillie Price from Niagara, and Rebecca Kape from Rider. The midfield includes Iona’s Erika Flowers, Marist’s Amanda Epstein, Niagara’s Amelia Gulley, Quinnipiac’s Jessica Fontaine and Rider’s Priscilla Santos. The forwards are made up of Ashley Small of Fairfield, and Monmouth’s Erica Murphy along with teammate Ross. Bethany-May Howard from Rider is the keeper.
The MAAC All-Rookie Team backs include Manhattan’s Nicole Aylmer and Emily Center, Rider’s Madison Lipton and Emily Schmitt, and Siena’s Kaela Mahoney. The midfielders are made up of Faith Daley of Fairfield, Eva Bachmann and Gulley of Niagara, and Ellie Smith of Rider. Charlotte Stuart from Iona, Ross from Monmouth, and Carissa Sanchez form Rider make up the forwards. At goalkeeper are Marist’s Ashley Houghton and Saint Peter’s Lauren Solene.
