Player of the Week

Damika Martinez, Iona

Sr., G, 5-7, Meriden, Conn./Orville H. Platt

Senior guard Damika Martinez averaged 27.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, as well as one assist and one block per outing over two games for the Gaels in non-conference action.  Martinez started the week with a game-high 25 point effort at Kansas on the road.  Martinez connected on nine field goals in the game, including four three-pointers, to go along with four rebounds.  Against Stony Brook, Martinez scored a game-high 29 points, grabbed five boards, and had two blocks.  In the contest, Martinez became the sixth player in league history to eclipse the 2,000 point mark, and first in Iona women's basketball history.  She is now fourth all-time on the MAAC scoring ledger.  Martinez is one of only two active players in the nation with 2,000 points.

Rookie of the Week

Margot Hetzke, Siena

Fr., F, 5-11, Penfield, N.Y./Penfield

Hetzke had another monster week, averaging team-highs of 18.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in two games last week for the Saints which finished as the runner-up at the University of Denver Thanksgiving Classic. On Friday, she scored a game-high 23 points on 7-11 shooting in just 26 minutes as the Saints pummeled the host Pioneers. In the Tournament Championship, Hetzke posted her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the Saints’ loss to undefeated Akron. 11 of Hetzke’s 16 total rebounds over the weekend came off the offensive glass.
