Player of the Week

Damika Martinez, Iona

Sr., G, 5-7, Meriden, Conn./Orville H. Platt

Senior guard Damika Martinez scored a game-high 31 points in the Gaels' lone contest of the week, a 75-67 victory over UCF at home.  Martinez connected on 13 of 22 attempts from the field, including four from behind the arc. With 263 career 3FGs, Martinez is now third all-time in league history and four shy of tying for the all-time mark (Amanda Cavo, Canisius, 267).  Martinez also contributed six rebounds, four assists and two steals in the victory.

Rookie of the Week

Payton Birchmeier, Marist

Fr., F, 6-1, Corunna, Mich./Corunna

Birchmeier would have a solid all around week contributing in all facets of the game for the Red Foxes.  In the Red Foxes first game of the week against Albany, freshman forward Payton Birchmeier had a strong game putting up five points, four rebounds and three assists. In the second game of the week Birchmeier totaled a career high 14 points and seven rebounds, as well as a block and a steal on 5-10 shooting and 4-6 from behind the arc as she sparked the team to a huge first half against Boston University on Saturday. For the week Birchmeier would average 9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists while adding a block and a steal in two games this week.

The 2014-15 season culminates with the MAAC Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. March 5-9. Tickets can be purchased here.
