Samantha Guastella had an excellent week as her 14.3 points per game average led a Bobcat squad that went undefeated (3-0) for the week. Guastella shot an incredible percentage all week as she hit 50 percent (14-for-28) of her shots from the floor but more impressively hit on 45.8 percent (11-for-24) of her three-point attempts. She rounded out her week with averages of eight rebounds, 2.7 blocks, two assists and 1.7 steals per game. Easily her most impressive performance of the week came on Monday against Albany as she came three blocks away from recording a triple-double, finishing with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and seven blocks to go along with four assists and four steals. The seven blocks and four steals tied career-highs while she also picked up the eighth double-double of her career against the Great Danes. She rounded out her week with 15 points (5-7 3FG) and four rebounds in just 21 minutes of action on Wednesday in a convincing win over Drexel. Finally, on Sunday she totaled 11 points and nine rebounds to help lead the Bobcats to a road win over Hartford.
Rookie of the Week
Margot Hetzke, Siena
Fr., F, 5-11, Penfield, N.Y./Penfield
Hetzke had another huge week, averaging 14.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in leading the Saints to a perfect 2-0 week with a pair of road wins. The freshman was clutch during the week, scoring 22 of her 29 points in the second halves of the games. In Wednesday’s win at Sacred Heart, she poured in 17 points on 6-12 shooting. Hetzke scored eight clutch points late during the Saints’ game-ending 32-9 run as Siena rallied from 13 down with 13 minutes to go to knock off a Sacred Heart team on the road that was predicted to finish second in the Northeast Conference. On Friday, Hetzke scored all of her team-high tying 12 points in the second half and added eight rebounds to help Siena shake a sluggish start and beat Binghamton on the road to clinch the program’s second straight winning non-conference season.
