Player of the Week

Justin Robinson, Monmouth

So., G, 5-8, 160, Lake Katrine, N.Y./Kingston

Robinson led Monmouth with 18.5 points per game in the Hawks’ 2-0 week to open MAAC play, with wins at Marist and over Iona at home. The point guard connected on 70.6 percent (12-17) from the field overall and 5-for-9 (55.6 percent) from three-point range, and went 8-for-11from the free throw line in a pair of starts for the Hawks. The sophomore also added a team-high seven assists and four steals as well. In the Hawks road win at Marist, which was Monmouth’s first conference opening win since 2005-06, Robinson notched 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting with a pair of three-pointers and added three assists and two steals. The guard registered a new career-high with 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting (3-of-5 from three-point range) with four assists and two steals in the Hawks’ 92-89 win over Iona.

Rookie of the Week

Schadrac Casimir, Iona 

Fr., G, 5-10, 155, Stamford, Conn./South Kent School/Trinity Catholic

Freshman Schadrac Casimir had his first breakout effort of the season on the road scoring 29 points at Monmouth, more than doubling his overall season average entering the contest. Casimir came into the contest averaging 30.0 points per game in two home games and 6.3 points per game in four road contests before the scoring surge Sunday. He shot 10-for-20 from the field and 8-of-15 from beyond the arc. The three-point field goal total matched his season-high and his own Iona rookie record set two games prior. Casimir added three assists with just one turnover and had a rebound. All three dimes came on Gael trifectas.
