Offensive Player of the Week

Carrie-Jo Farrugia, Niagara 

Jr., Attack, 5-4, Jordan-Elbridge, N.Y./Jordan-Elbridge

Junior Carrie-Jo Farrugia pocketed a career-high seven points in Thursday’s 18-13 victory over St. Bonaventure, giving the Purple Eagles their second win over the Bonnies in program history. Farrugia scored a season-high four goals and three assists to push Niagara back to the .500 mark on the season (3-3). The Jordan-Elbridge, N.Y. native finished the contest with six shots and four ground balls, while also forcing a turnover and winning a draw control. Farrugia leads Niagara with 13 goals and 18 points, and has five assists on the season.

Defensive Player of the Week

Maria Ortiz, Iona  

Sr., GK, 5-4, New Milford, Conn./New Milford

Iona College senior goalkeeper Maria Ortiz collected 28 saves over two non-conference games for the Gaels. Ortiz registered a GAA of 10.50 and a .571 save percentage as the Marroon & Gold went 1-1 this week. Against No. 17 Stony Brook, Ortiz picked up a career high 16 saves against the Seawolves, posting a .500 save percentage for the Gaels. Ortiz was pressured all game by a Stony Brook offense that recorded 35 shots.  Ortiz also grabbed five groundballs in the win.  Against St. Bonaventure, Ortiz nabbed her second straight double digit save efforts, stopping 12 shots in a 12-5 Iona win.

Rookie of the Week

Briana Sirianni, Siena

Fr., Midfielder, 5-9, Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs

Sirianni excelled in all facets in two games last week for the Saints. She won 15 draw controls, picked up four groundballs, caused two turnovers and scored two points on a goal and an assist. On Thursday she won 10 draw controls, the second highest single-game total in program history, and added a goal and an assist against Binghamton. On Saturday at 17th ranked Stony Brook she won five more draw controls and picked up a season-high four groundballs.
