Solt, Sansano, Vazquez Earn MAAC Softball Weekly Awards: March 25, 2014
Player of the Week
Courtney Solt – Quinnipiac
So., OF, 5-2, Boyerton, Pa./Boyertown
The MAAC’s Softball Player of the Week is Quinnipiac’s sophomore outfielder Courtney Solt. Solt batted a lofty .727 in four-games last weekend at the Towson Invitational. Solt collected eight hits in 11 at-bats, with five runs, one RBI, one double, one walk, three hit-by-pitches, and three stolen bases. Solt posted an .800 on-base percentage and slugged .818 for the week. She recorded at least one hit in all four games, and reached base safely at least twice in all four games. Solt started the weekend with a single, two runs scored and three hit-by-pitches against Towson. Every game after that was a multi-hit game for Solt, starting with the contest vs. Wagner on Saturday as she finished 3-for-3 with one run, one double and one stolen base. Not only was Solt dominant offensively, she didn’t commit an error in the field as she went a perfect 6-for-6 on her putout opportunities in left field.
Pitcher of the Week
Jennifer Sansano
Sr., RHP, 6-0, Clarence, N.Y./Saint Bonaventure University
The MAAC Softball Pitcher of the Week is Jennifer Sansano of Niagara. Sansano threw another dominant performance in her lone appearance last weekend to steer Niagara to a 2-0 win over the Robert Morris Colonials on Friday in the RMU Classic. Sansano struck out a season-high eight batters and scattered just four singles in the complete game victory to improve her record to 6-1 on the season.
Rookie of the Week
Jenn Vazquez – Manhattan
Fr., C/1B, 5-10, Fairfield, Conn./St. Joseph’s
The MAAC Softball Rookie of the Week is Manhattan’s Jenn Vazquez. Vazquez led the Jaspers with a .438 batting average in six games last week, and recorded a least one hit in each of the last five contests. After going 1-for-2 in the opener, she had a double and a two-run single in the second game of a doubleheader vs. St. John’s on Thursday. Vazquez then went 1-for-4 with a run scored in the loss at LIU Brooklyn on Friday. In Saturday’s doubleheader with the Blackbirds, she had two hits in the first game, including a two-run double that ended the contest, before crushing her second home run of the season in the nightcap.
