MAAC Water Polo Championship Seeds set for April 26

Edison, N.J. – The 2014 MAAC Water Polo Championship will begin on April 26 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., at Marist College's McCann Natatorium.

Regular season champions and number one-seed Wagner College will take on fourth-seeded Villanova University in the semifinal round on Saturday, April 26. Also slated to play on Saturday in the semifinal match are the second-seeded Marist College Red Foxes facing the third-seeded Iona College Gaels. Start times for the semifinal rounds are scheduled for 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. On Sunday, April 27, there will be a consolation game scheduled for noon, followed by the Championship Final at 2:00 pm to be played between the winners from Saturday. All of the games will be available for the fans to watch on MAAC.TV.

The third seeded Iona Gaels have been crowned MAAC Water Polo champions for the past three seasons, while competing in the championship game for six straight years. After falling short and finishing as MAAC runner-up the past three seasons, top-seeded Wagner will look to take home their first MAAC Water Polo championship since 2007. Marist comes to the championship ranked 2nd in the MAAC and looks to return to the Championship Finals for the first time since 2010. Villanova, who holds the 4th seed, looks for their first championship berth since 2005.

The winner of the 2014 MAAC Women's Water Polo Championship will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Water Polo Championship, which will be held May 9-11 at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center in Los Angeles, California on the campus of the University of Southern California.
