Fairfield, Quinnipiac Advance to MAAC Women's Tennis Championship

West Windsor, N.J. – Fairfield University and Quinnipiac University will meet in the finals of the MAAC Women’s Tennis Championship after winning their semifinal matches against Niagara University and Marist College, respectively.
The second-seeded Stags defeated third-seeded Niagara, 4-1. The Stags took the doubles point when the No. 3 duo of Allison Radde and Kaila Nelson won 8-1; Fairfield’s Monica Yajima and Carolina Koladzyn won in No. 1 doubles, 8-0. In No. 1 singles, All-MAAC First Team member Monica Yajima topped Ashley Ta in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. After falling in No. 2 singles, Fairfield’s Sharissa Ryan defeated Sarah Hellstern in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. The match was decided in No. 3 singles when Allison Radde defeated Brooke Briseno 6-3, 7-5 to clinch the match for the Stags.
Top-seeded Quinnipiac defeated fourth seeded Marist, 4-2, to advance to the championship final. The Bobcats claimed the doubles point with the help of Jaqueline Raynor and Michelle Dassa at No. 2 doubles and Kelsi Oliphant and Mary Chupa at No. 3 doubles. The team of Raynor and Dassa defeated Marist’s Karly Pang and Sabring Tahir, 8-2 and the doubles point was decided when Oliphant and Chupa topped Melissa Carlay and Kaye Eastman 8-5 in third doubles. Quinnipiac’s Raynor defeated Tahir in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 in second singles. With the match tied at 2-2, Sydney Young won her singles match in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in fourth singles and Dassa outlasted Marielle Campbell 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 in third singles to clinch the match for the Bobcats.
The women's championship match will begin at approximately 2 p.m. tomorrow.
