MAAC Announces 2014 Men's Lacrosse Awards

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Siena College’s Richie Hurley was selected MAAC Lacrosse League Offensive Player of the Year, while University of Detroit Mercy’s Jason Weber earned Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors to headline the 2014 MAAC Lacrosse All-MAAC Teams, as voted by the league’s head coaches.
Additionally, Siena’s Casey Dowd was voted Face-Off Specialist of the Year and Manhattan’s Sean McMahon and Marist’s Patrick Eaker earned Co-Long Stick Midfielders of the Year. Siena’s head coach John Svec was chosen as the Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year.
Hurley, a redshirt-junior from Setauket, N.Y., leads the MAAC in assists per game (2.86) and points per game (4.93) finishing the regular season with 40 assists and 69 points. His assist per game and points per game marks are currently 4th best in the nation and 2nd/3rd all-time in the MAAC. His 40 assists this season also currently ranks 3rd all-time in the league. Hurley was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week three times in 2014.
Weber, a freshman from Whitby, Ont., leads the league and the nation in save percentage (.647) and saves per game (16.30). His save percentage currently ranks 2nd all-time in the MAAC behind Marist’s Craig Gravelding who had a .689 save percentage in 1996. He averaged 8.87 goals allowed, best in the league and 15th nationally. Weber was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week twice this season and MAAC Rookie of the Week on Mar. 10.
Dowd, a junior from Madison, Conn., was named Face-Off Specialist of the Year after winning .590 (190-132) of his face-offs on the season. He is second in the MAAC and ranks 14th nationally in face-off percentage. Dowd also ranks first in the league and 6th nationally in groundballs per game (9.50). His ground balls per game mark currently sits him 4th all-time in the MAAC.
McMahon, a senior from New Milford, Conn., was named Co-Long Stick Midfielder of the Year after finishing the regular season with 89 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers for the Jaspers. He ranks 2nd in the MAAC in ground balls per game with 5.93. McMahon was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week on Apr. 21.
Eaker, a junior from Redding, Conn., earned the league’s Co-Long Stick Midfielder of the Year award for the second year in a row. He picked up a total of 42 ground balls this season and ranks sixth in the league in ground balls per game (3.23).
Svec, currently in his 3rd season at Siena, led the Saints to a perfect 6-0 conference record and an overall mark of 9-5. Siena won the regular season champions’ title and earned a number one seed in the championship. This is the second time in his three years at Siena that the Saints have had an undefeated MAAC regular season and earned the regular season championship title.
First Team All-MAAC selections include Hurley and Detroit’s Shayne Adams and Marist’s Joe Radin at attack. Canisius’ Tim Edwards, Marist’s Mike Begley and Drew Nesmith and Siena's Conor Prunty are the midfielders. The defense features Canisius’ Adam Donner, Detroit’s Paul Bitetti, Manhattan’s Sean McMahon, Marist’s Eaker and Siena’s Brendan Meehan. Detroit’s Weber is goalkeeper.
