2014 Women's Lacrosse All-MAAC Teams Announced

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Canisius College's Tori Quinn was selected as the MAAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row, while teammates Maria Kotas was named the Midfielder of the Year and Ashley Bull earned the Defensive Player of the Year award to headline the 2014 Women's Lacrosse All-MAAC Teams, as voted by the league's nine head coaches.

Marist College freshman Abigail Witczak was named the Rookie of the Year, while Marist College head coach Jessica O’Brien earned the Anaconda Sports Coach of the Year honor for the second consecutive year.

Quinn, a 5-3 junior attack from Orangeville, Ontario, who was named the MAAC Co-Preseason Player of the Year, finished the regular season tied for the MAAC lead in assist with 23 and assists per game with 1.44 per contest. She ranked second in the league in points with 65 and third in points per game with a 4.06 average. Quinn also ranked fourth in goals with 42 and earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors twice in the 2014 season. She was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2013 and was a member of the 2013 All-MAAC First Team last season as well.

MAAC Co-Preseason Player of the Year, Kotas, led the MAAC in ten statistical categories which included: goals (47), goals per game (2.94), points (70), points per game (4.38), ground balls (54), ground balls per game (3.38), caused turnovers (43), caused turnovers per game (2.69), free position goals (16), and free position goals per game (1.00). The 5-3 senior from Lancaster, N.Y., also tied for first in the league in assists with 23 and assists per game with 1.44. Kotas was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week twice and Offensive Player of the week once this season. She was a member of the 2013 All-MAAC First Team and named MAAC Tournament MVP last year.

5-4 sophomore midfielder Bull, ranked fifth in the MAAC in draw controls with 60. She also ranked sixth in the league with 34 ground balls and 10th in caused turnovers per game with 1.06 a contest. The Langley, British Columbia native added 27 goals and five assist on the offensive end. Bull was named to the All-MAAC First and Rookie Teams in 2013 as a freshman and earned MAAC All-Tournament Team honors.

Freshman goalkeeper Witczak, started in the goal for Marist in all 16 games during her freshman campaign. She finished the regular season ranked second in the MAAC in goals against average allowing 8.34 and third in save percentage with a .463 percentage. The 5-2 Mendham, N.J. native was named MAAC Rookie of the Week three times and MAAC defensive player of the week twice in 2014.

O’Brien helped lead Marist to a share of the regular season title and the top seed in the 2014 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship. In her fourth season at the helm of the Red Foxes, she led the team to a 7-1 MAAC record and a 13-3 overall mark, which included a 10 game win streak. O’Brien was named the 2013 Anaconda Sports Coach of the Year last season.

The All-MAAC First Team consists of Canisius' Quinn, Marist’s Allison Gionta and Quinnipiac’s Kyra Ochwat at attack. The midfield consists of Canisius’ Kotas, and Bull, Fairfield's Melanie Raso, Marist’s Jamie Romano, and Monmouth’s Allison Stathius. Canisius’ Gabby Kotas, Fairfield’s Erinn Hogan and Meghan Reda, Marist’s Bailey Knapton and Quinnipiac’s Vicki Kuhn make up the defense. Fairfield’s Chelsey Sidaras is goalkeeper.

The Second Team features Cansius’ Taylor Giglio, Fairfield’s Jenna Slowey, and Niagara’s Carrie-Jo Farrugia, at attack. Canisius’ Meghan Cuddy, Manhattan’s Megan Yarusso, Marist’s Kara McHugh, Niagara’s Kayla Smith and Siena’s Julia Sirianni are at midfield. At defense are Canisius’ Sami Franco, Iona’s Angela Grous, and Marist’s Christine Astaria and Tina Pumo. The goalkeepers are Manhattan’s Christina Fiorinelli and Marist’s Witczak.

The All-Rookie team consists of Canisius' Ashley Heisler, Fairfield's Alex Fehmel and Riley Hellstein, Iona's Erin Pugh, Marist's Natalie Bonaroti and Witczak, Monmouth’s Claudia LaMarca, Niagara’s Kara Martin and Taylor Wolf, Quinnipiac’s Kelly Babstock, and Siena's Cara McQuillan and Briana Sirianni.
