Marist Advances to First MAAC Title Game in Nine Years

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The second seeded Marist College Red Foxes defeated the third seeded University of Detroit Mercy Titans, 11-9 in the second semifinal game of the 2014 Men's Lacrosse Championship at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field on the campus of Marist College.
Marist and Detroit went goal-for-goal until the fourth quarter when the Titans scored 3 straight goals, but the Red Foxes rallied in the final four minutes to score four straight to advance their first MAAC title game in nine years.
Drew Nesmith and Joe Radin both tallied four points on a hat trick and assist for Marist while J.D. Recor added three points and Colin Joka and Connor O’Neill each added two points. Marist’s defense was led by Dave Scarcello who had 15 saves in goal. Dominic Montemurro also came up big for the Red Foxes will winning 14-of-23 face-offs.
Shayne Adams had a stellar night for the Titans, amassing six of Detroit’s 9 goals. The MAAC Rookie and Defensive Player of the Year, Jason Weber had an impressive 16 saves on the game.
Marist will play the top seeded Siena College Saints in the championship final match on Saturday. The Saints advanced to its sixth consecutive championship final after defeating Canisius 14-11 in the earlier semifinal match-up. This will be the first meeting between Marist and Siena in the MAAC Championship Final.
The championship game will be at 11a.m. at Marist College's Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field and can be seen live on ESPN3 and Time Warner Cable.
