Canisius earns 12-10 Victory over Fairfield in the Second Semifinal

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Third-seeded Canisius College defeated second-seeded Fairfield University, 11-9, in the second semifinal of the 2014 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship played at Demske Sports Complex on the campus of Canisius College.
MAAC Midfielder of the Year Maria Kotas scored a game high six goals and added an assists, seven ground balls, and four draw controls in the victory for Canisius. Sophomore attack Taylor Giglio recorded three goals and an assists, while Ashley Bull, Meghan Cuddy, and Tori Quinn all added one goal for the Griffs.
Fairfield freshman Reilly Hellstein scored four goals and an assists to lead the way for the Stags, while her classmate Alex Fehmel scored two goals. Jamie Leone, Colleen Reynolds, Jenna Slowey, and Scarlet Sulliman all registered one goal for the Stags in the contest.
Both Cansius goalkeeper Kayla Scully and Fairfield’s keeper Chelsey Sidaras made 6 saves in the semifinal.
The Griffs will play in their fourth consecutive final and will face top seeded Marist College in the title game on Sunday, May 4 at 1:00 p.m., live on Time Warner Cable and ESPN3.
The winner of the 2014 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship earns the league’s automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The NCAA selection show will take place on Sunday, May 4 on NCAA.com.
