Third Time's a Charm; Siena Wins the 2014 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Title

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The top seeded Siena College Saints defeated the second seeded Marist College Red Foxes, 11-7 in the 2014 Men's Lacrosse Championship Final at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field on the campus of Marist College.
After losing in the MAAC Championship Final the last two years, Siena picked up their third MAAC title since 2009. The Saints are now 11-5 overall and earned the MAAC’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship.
Siena was the first on the board and never trailed after an unassisted goal by Richie Hurley at 11:39 in the first quarter. Jordan Barlow ripped in Siena’s second goal off a quick pass from Hurley to give the Saints a 2-0 with 6:27 remaining in the first. Marist would not net a goal until 11 seconds left in the first quarter with an unassisted goal from Mike Begley.
Siena came out strong in the second quarter outscoring Marist 4-0, giving the Saints a 6-1 lead going into the half. Marist would cut Siena’s lead to 3 with two goals from Joseph Radin and Dillon Walker early in the third quarter, but Siena maintained at least a 3 point lead the rest of the way.
Barlow and Colin Clive each completed a hat trick on the day to lead Siena. Kyle Curry also had a big day for the Saints, scoring one goal, adding four assists and picking up six groundballs. Goalkeeper and 2014 MAAC Championship Most Outstanding Player Tommy Cordts made 13 saves between the poles.
Marist, making their first trip to the championship final since 2005, was led by All-Tournament Team member Gannon Osborn who netted one goal and picked up seven groundballs in the game. Also making the All-Tournament Team was goalkeeper Dave Scarcello with 15 saves on the day.
Siena will play in the play-in game of the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship on Wednesday, May 7. The Saints will find out who they will face the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse selection show will air Sunday, May 4 at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
