Rampado & Smith Honored as Women's Basketball Weekly Award Recipients

Player of the Week

Victoria Rampado, Niagara

So., F, 6-2, Niagara Falls, Ontario/A.N. Myer

Sophomore forward Victoria Rampado averaged 20.5 points while also hauling down 11.5 rebounds over two games for the Purple Eagles.  Rampado opened the week one rebound shy of double-double and finishing with 14 points and a team-high nine rebounds against Siena. The reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year set career-highs with 27 points and 14 rebounds against top seeded Quinnipiac, marking her second double-double of the season. The Niagara Falls, Ont. native finished 12-for-18 from the field, 1-for-2 from beyond the arc and a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.  After this weekend, Rampado surpassed the 400-point mark for her career.  She now has 436 points through 44 career games.  

Rookie of the Week

Casey Smith, Fairfield

So., F, 6-2, Danbury, Conn./Danbury

Smith averaged double figures with 10 points per game in Fairfield’s 3-0 week. Smith generated the energy for the Stags by scoring the first six points for Fairfield in the upset win at Marist. Smith was also the leading scorer with 13 points against Saint Peter’s a game where she shot 50 percent from the floor and grabbed seven boards. Smith made a circus reverse no look layup against Rider which gave the Stags breathing room against Rider. Up by three at the time, the Stags were able to increase their lead to six after the three point play. Smith also averaged 5.3 boards and had a career-high five assists against the Broncs. In the week she had four dishes per contest.

The 2014-15 season culminates with the MAAC Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. March 5-9. Tickets can be purchased here.
