Player of the Week
Isaiah Williams, Iona
Jr., G, 6-7, 190, Newark, N.J./State College Florida Manatee/Shabazz
Junior Isaiah Williams led the Maroon & Gold to two wins at home this past week, filling the stat sheet with 24.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals and a 7:1 assist-to-turnover ratio. He shot 75.0 percent from the field, 62.5 percent from beyond the arc with 10 three-point field goals and was 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. Williams posted his second double-double of the year Tuesday night in a win over Quinnipiac with 22 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 9-of-11 from the field and 4-of-6 from deep. The 10 rebounds matched his career-high for the third time this season. In the Gaels win over Canisius Saturday, Williams led the Gaels in scoring for the first time in his career with 26 points. He hit six three-pointers (one shy of his career best effort) with his biggest shot coming with 82 seconds remaining as he drained a trifecta from the corner with the shot clock expiring to break the game’s final tie and propel Iona to a three-point victory. Williams added six rebounds, three blocks and three steals and had five assists and no turnovers versus the Golden Griffins.
Iona becomes the first team to have four different players named MAAC Player of the Week in a single-season since Siena in 2008-09 (Kenny Hasbrouck, Edwin Ubiles. Ronald Moore, Ryan Rossiter).
Rookie of the Week
Ayron Hutton, Quinnipiac
Fr., G, 6-3, 180, Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry
Ayron Hutton helped the Bobcats to a 2-1 record last week, averaging 11.3 points, 4.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game. Hutton began the week with career highs in points (16) and assists (8) at Iona – in which he hit four threes and went 6-of-14 from the field. Hutton factored in both games over the weekend, but it was his 15 points against Marist that stood out. He went 5-for-8 from the floor and 4-for-5 from long range – his four threes matching a career high which he also did at Iona. Hutton also snagged three rebounds and dished out three assists in the win. On Friday night, Hutton finished with three points, three assists and two rebounds in the win at Monmouth. His three-point field goal deep into the second half came at a crucial moment to aid Quinnipiac’s comeback victory. Hutton went 9-for-20 from three-point range on the week.
