Quinnipiac Sits atop the MAAC Women's Basketball Standings

EDISON, N.J. – Quinnipiac University currently sits in the top spot of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women’s basketball standings with a 6-0 record. Iona lands the number two spot sitting at 5-1, followed by Marist at 4-1 in third place. Fairfield sits right outside of the top three at 4-2, while Siena, Niagara and Canisius are tied with 3-3 records to round out the fifth spot.
The Bobcats were victorious in two MAAC road games this weekend to remain undefeated in league play. Quinnipiac defeated Canisius 86-66 on Friday, January 9 before downing Niagara 71-68 on Sunday, January 11 for their fifth and sixth consecutive league wins.
The Gaels picked up their first win of the week on the road against Manhattan 79-62 on Friday, January 9. Iona’s second victory came against Saint Peter’s at home, 77-43 on Sunday, January 11 for the team’s fourth-straight win.
The Red Foxes dropped their first contest of the week to Fairfield at home, a 56-55 decision on Tuesday, January 6 to snap a six game winning streak. Marist returned to the court on Saturday, January 10 to earn a 63-60 road win versus Monmouth.
The Stags notched three victories last week, including two road wins. Fairfield was victorious on the road over defending champions Marist 56-55 on Tuesday, January 6. The Stags headed home to defeat Saint Peter’s, 57-46 on Friday, January 9. Fairfield extended their win streak to three after beating Rider on the road on Sunday, January 11 with a score of 59-47.
Closing out the top five at 3-3 are the Saints, Purple Eagles and Golden Griffins. Siena went 2-0 last week defeating Niagara on the road 56-52 and coming back from a 20 point deficit against Canisius on the road to win 71-70. Niagara was 0-2 last week after falling to Siena and dropping to league leading Quinnipiac 71-68. Canisius also had a 0-2 week falling to Quinnipiac 86-66 and Siena 71-70.
Quinnipiac remains unbeaten at home this season with a 7-0 record while Iona shares an undefeated home record in MAAC play at 3-0.
Monmouth finished the week with a 1-1 record, earning their second MAAC win of the season.
The 2014-15 season culminates with the MAAC Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. March 5-9. Tickets can be purchased here.
