Men's Basketball Continues this Week; MAAC ESPN Telecast Schedule Resumes

EDISON, N.J. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s basketball teams return to action this week with the MAAC ESPN broadcast schedule also resuming on Thursday (Jan. 15) and Friday (Jan. 16).
The MAAC men’s basketball schedule opens up this week on Monday (Jan. 12), highlighted by a matchup between two of the top three teams in Monmouth and Rider at 7 p.m. in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. The winner of the hOURglass rivalry meeting will take sole possession of first place in the standings. Both the Hawks and Broncs enter the contest at 4-1 in MAAC games, with Rider putting its perfect 5-0 home mark and six-game win streak on the line.
Tuesday’s (Jan. 13) slate features Fairfield at Iona with tipoff time set for 7 p.m., and Niagara hosts UPenn in non-conference action at 7 p.m. as well. The Gaels are currently 4-1 in league play, while the Stags are 3-2. Iona is a perfect 7-0 at home this season, and Fairfield is a perfect 2-0 on the road in conference games.
The lone contest of Wednesday (Jan. 14) includes Monmouth welcoming hOURglass rival Saint Peter’s to West Long Branch, New Jersey, at 7 p.m. The Peacocks hold a 2-4 league mark after dropping their last two games on the road.
On Thursday (Jan. 15), Quinnipiac hosts a double-header at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Connecticut. The night begins at 5 p.m. with Quinnipiac hosting Fairfield in women’s basketball, followed by Quinnipiac hosting Rider in men’s basketball. Both games will be televised on ESPN3.
Friday’s (Jan. 16) schedule includes the ESPN telecast package continuing with two wildcard contests. On ESPNU at 7 p.m. Niagara will host Iona. The Purple Eagles bring a 2-4 conference record into the matchup. The squad looks to snap a three-game losing streak. On ESPN3 at 7 p.m., Saint Peter’s hosts Manhattan. In the first meeting between the two teams, Manhattan edged Saint Peter’s, 68-63, on Jan. 7 in Riverdale, New York. Also in action on Friday are Siena at Canisius and Marist at Fairfield, both tipping at 7 p.m. Canisius and Siena enter the contest with even 3-3 MAAC records and are coming off of 1-1 weeks. Marist looks to win its first conference game of the season.
The week concludes on Sunday (Jan. 18) with a full slate of games. At 2 p.m., Manhattan hosts Rider, Niagara is home against Siena, and Canisius will host Iona. Tipping at 3 p.m. are Marist and Quinnipiac at McCann Arena in Poughkeepsie, New York. Concluding the day and week will be Fairfield at Monmouth starting at 4:30 p.m.
The 2015 season culminates at the 2015 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York March 5-9. Tickets for the championships are available online at ticketmaster.com.
