Marist Sweeps Weekly Awards

EDISON, N.J. – The Marist Red Foxes have swept the MAAC Swimming and Diving Weekly Awards. Nick Vandermolen a senior captain for the Red Foxes is the MAAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week. The MAAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week is Marist College’s Meredith Wurtz. Jacob Baker is the MAAC Men’s Diver of the Week and Megan Berardelli is the MAAC Women’s Diver of the week, both Red Foxes.
Nick Vandermolen a senior from Marist College is the MAAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week. Vandermolen helped Marist to a victory over Southern Connecticut State winning a pair of individual events and was also part of the winning 200 yard medley relay. The senior captain took first place in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.79. He also won the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:15.15.
The MAAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week is another Red Fox, sophomore Meredith Wurtz. Wurtz finished first in all three events she competed in, helping Marist earn 29 points in its 165-105 victory over Southern Connecticut State. She placed first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.86. Wurtz also took the top spot in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.75.
The MAAC Men’s Diver of the Week is Jacob Baker of Marist College. Baker set a personal best on the 3 meter board with a score of 320.48. His score earned him a spot at the NCAA Zone Qualifier Championships. Baker took first place in the 1 meter dive as well finishing with 271.72.
Freshman Megan Berardelli from Marist College is the MAAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week. Berardelli broke a program record in the 1 meter dive racking up 283.42, exceeding the previous record that stood for 8 years. She came in second place in the 3 meter diving event, scoring 258.90. Berardelli is the reigning MAAC Diver of the Week and ECAC Division I Metro/Upstate Diver of the Week.
