Martinez and Hetzke Honored with MAAC Women's Basketball Weekly Awards

Player of the Week
Damika Martinez, Iona

Senior Damika Martinez averaged 33.0 points, 7.0 rebounds , 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game over two contests this week in league play. Martinez shot 60.0% from the field, connecting on 24 of her 40 attempts from the field.
Martinez opened the week with 25 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals on the road against Siena. Martinez went 11-for-15 from the floor while also recording her second double-double of the season.
Martinez then scored a season-high 41 points against Rider at home. Martinez connected on 13 field goals, and went 14-for-16 from the charity stripe. It marked the third 40-point effort of her career. The nation's active leading scorer has now scored 2292 points over her standout four seasons with the Gaels, and now sits just 175 points away from tying the MAAC scoring record.
Rookie of the Week
Margot Hetzke, Siena
Fr., F, 5-11, Penfield, N.Y./Penfield
Siena freshman Margot Hetzke averaged 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 52.2% from the field in the Saints’ two games last week against defending MAAC co-Regular Season Champions Iona and Marist. On Friday, Hetzke scored 12 points on 6 of 9 shooting and added six rebounds against the Gaels. On Sunday, she led all scorers with 16 points and added six rebounds as the Saints went on the road and played nine-time defending MAAC Champion Marist to the closest final score in the series in the past decade. Hetzke has now been named MAAC Rookie of the Week six times this season.
