Paul Tamberino Named MAAC Soccer Officials Assignor

EDISON, N.J. – Paul Tamberino has been named the soccer officials’ assignor for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, the league announced.
Tamberino currently serves as the Coordinator of Officials for the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Ivy League. In addition to bringing collegiate experience, Tamberino has also been involved in the professional ranks.
Gene Doris, Director of Athletics at Fairfield University and Chair of the MAAC Men's Soccer Committee, noted, "I want to thank the members of the search committee (Tracey Flynn, Quinnipiac University; Brian Beyrer, Iona College; Greg Busch, Rider University; Steve Karbowski, Siena College; Dermot McGrane, Canisius College) and MAAC staff for their diligence in the selection of Paul Tamberino as the assignor for MAAC men's and women’s soccer. The quality of the finalists was exceptional and we feel that Paul's resume speaks for itself. Paul Tamberino's expertise will enhance the quality of MAAC soccer and we welcome him to the MAAC."
Tamberino’s term as assignor will begin immediately. His duties will include assignment of officials for all MAAC men’s and women’s soccer contests and all home contests of MAAC institutions, as well as all post-season MAAC Men’s and Women’s Championship contests. Tamberino will also coordinate recruitment and evaluation of conference soccer officials.
A four-time MLS Referee of the Year, Tamberino has held various roles with the league including Director of Competition and a member of the Disciplinary Committee and Technical Committee. On the national stage, Tamberino served as a FIFA Referee Inspector for both CONCACAF and U.S. Soccer. From 1993-2000 he was an Assistant Referee for FIFA; officiating Olympic Qualifiers, CONCACAF qualifying tournaments and World Cup Qualifiers.
On the collegiate level, Tamberino has officiated numerous NCAA postseason contests, including Division I and Division III Final Fours.

Tamberino is a member of the National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association (NISOA) National Hall of Fame, and the Maryland Hall of Fame as both a player and referee.
