Quinnipiac Advances to MAAC Field Hockey Championship Final

West Long Branch, NJ – Second seeded Quinnipiac University defeats number three Rider University, 3-2, in the semifinal round of the 2015 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Field Hockey Championship at So Sweet a Cat Field on the campus of Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey.
In the first period, Rider sophomore forward Shannon Hughes scored at 15:25 giving the Broncs an early 1-0 lead. Quinnipiac junior midfielder Angie King answered back with a goal of her own assisted by senior midfielder Meghan McCullough, at the 20 minute mark tying the game up 1-1. Bobcats senior goalkeeper Megan Conaboy had three saves, while Rider’s senior goalkeeper Joelle Prettyman had one during the first period. The Broncs and Bobcats would go into halftime tied up 1-1.
The second period of the semifinal match-up included two more lead changes. Senior forward Savanna Reilly scored her eighth goal of the season, assisted by sophomore midfielder Felicia Costanzo, in the 46th minute mark giving the Bobcat’s their first lead of the afternoon, 2-1. Rider tied the score at the 50 minute mark with King’s second goal of the day, assisted by senior midfielder Rachel Ippolite. With no time on the clock Quinnipiac’s Reilly scored the game winner giving the Bobcats the 3-2 victory. She was assisted by junior defender Lily Shemo.
Quinnipiac’s Conaboy and Rider’s Prettyman both finished the day with four saves a piece.
Quinnipiac advances to the Field Hockey Championship Final, which will be on Sunday, November 6 at 11:00 a.m. facing Fairfield University, streamed on MAAC.TV. During regular season the Bobcats defeated Fairfield 5-4. The winner of the 2015 MAAC Field Hockey Championship will receive an automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Field Hockey Championship.
