Player of the Week
Samantha Sharkey, Canisius

Canisius sophomore Samantha Sharkey hit .400 with a double and two RBI last week as the Golden Griffins opened the 36th varsity season in school history at the CSU Dome Tournament in Cleveland. In the season opener against Cleveland State, Sharkey had two hits and drove in a run, and she also had an RBI, a run scored and a double in the team’s loss to Bowling Green Feb. 8. For the week, she posted a .364 on-base percentage and a .500 slugging percentage, and she also picked up seven putouts and 14 defensive assists s well.
Pitcher of the Week
Sydney Smyers, Niagara
Jr., Pitcher, 5-7, Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area High School
Sydney Smyers started in the circle in three of four games at the Cleveland State Dome Tournament. In the season opener, Smyers allowed five hits, three earned runs and one strikeout in three innings of work versus Cleveland State on Feb. 6. Smyers tossed consecutive complete games against Robert Morris and Bowling Green on Feb. 7. She had three strikeouts and allowed two earned runs against RMU and had two strikeouts against Bowling Green.
Rookie of the Week
Sarah Trifoso, Niagara
Fr., OF, 5-1, Coming, N.Y./Coming High School
Freshman Sarah Trifoso had a .300 batting average, 300 slugging percentage and a .364 on base percentage in three starts at the Cleveland State Dome Tournament. Trifoso went 2-for-3, had a stolen base and had one putout in her collegiate debut against Toledo on Feb. 6. Trifoso got on base with a walk against Robert Morris and had one hit in the last game of the tournament versus Bowling Green on Feb. 7.
