Day Two of Competition Completed at the 2015 Swimming & Diving Championships

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams concluded the second day of the new four day format in the 2015 Men’s & Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center in Buffalo, New York.

After the second day of competition, the Rider University men’s team is in first place with a total of 259.5 points. Marist College stands in second place with 222 points, while third place Canisius College registered 181 points. Saint Peter’s University followed, totaling 179 points, and Iona College is fifth with 111 points. In sixth place is Bryant University with 106.5 points, seventh is Fairfield University with 106, eighth is Niagara University with 105 points and Manhattan stands ninth with 94 points.

Marist College’s women’s team took the lead after day two, totaling 312 points. In second place is Canisius College with 188 points, while Rider has 159 points to stand third. Saint Peter’s University has 154 points and is in fourth place, while Siena stands in fifth with 131 points. Fairfield University holds sixth place with a total of 118. Following right behind in seventh is Iona College with 116 points, eighth is Niagara University with 113 points and ninth, with 73 points, is Manhattan College.

On the men’s side, the Rider University Broncs extended their lead in day two, winning two events in MAAC record breaking fashion. Zachary Molloy is the 2015 MAAC men’s 500 yard freestyle champion, finishing in a time of 4:22.74, good enough to break the old MAAC record of 4:26.51. Rider broke another MAAC record in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:21.40. Marist College climbed up the leader board by scoring 156 points in day two, for a championship total of 222 points. Red Fox team captain, John Spitzer, had a first place time of 20.67 in the 50 yard freestyle. On the diving board, Canisius College senior Eddie Quarantillo shined in the 3-meter event totaling 329.10 points. In the 200 IM, Bryant University’s Benjamin Schulte took gold and qualified for the NCAA “B” cut with a time of 1:48.62.

The Marist College women went from third place to first on the leader boards in the second day of competition. Marist senior Kimberly Tobias gave her team 20 points with a first place finish on the 1-meter diving board. The Red Foxes’ 200 yard freestyle relay team, consisted of Georgia Goldman, Colleen Lampe, Bridget Curley and Meredith Wurtz, won with a time of 1:34.95. Saint Peter’s University had a pair of MAAC record breaking victories, one in the 500 yard freestyle and the other in the 200 yard individual medley. Matea Samardzic, a Saint Peter’s University sophomore, broke the MAAC record in the 500 free with a first place time of 4:50.46. In the 200 IM, Rachel Wuko broke the MAAC record finishing in 22.97 seconds.
