Nine MAAC Basketball Games to Air on ESPN Family of Networks this Week

EDISON, N.J. – Nine telecasts highlight this week’s Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) basketball schedule. Five of the contests will be featured on the MAAC ESPN broadcast package, while four contests will be school-produced ESPN3 broadcasts.
Monmouth produced Monday night’s contest against Marist at the Multipurpose Athletic Center in West Long Branch, New Jersey. The Hawks came away with a 69-65 victory over the Red Foxes to complete the season sweep of Marist.
The MAAC ESPN broadcast package resumes Thursday, Feb. 19, with an hOURglass rivalry meeting between Saint Peter’s and Monmouth at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, New Jersey. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will air on ESPN3. The Peacocks defeated the Hawks, 62-61, in overtime on Jan.14 in the first game between the New Jersey rivals.
Also on Thursday, Fairfield will produce its home meeting with Niagara on ESPN3 at 7 p.m. The two teams will square off again in the season finale on Mar. 1 at 2 p.m.
The MAAC telecast schedule picks back up on Friday, Feb. 20, with an ESPNU doubleheader at Marist. Both Marist teams face Iona, beginning with the women’s team at 5 p.m. in a battle between two of the league’s top three teams, followed by the men’s team at 9 p.m. On the women’s side, Marist edged Iona, 63-58, on Jan. 31.
Iona’s Damika Martinez enters the game just two points shy of tying the MAAC career points record (Patty Stoffey, Loyola - 2,467). On the men’s side, the Gaels defeated the Red Foxes on Feb. 8, by the score of, 89-67. Marist’s senior swingman, Chavaughn Lewis, needs just 12 points to become the 12th men’s player in MAAC history to eclipse the 2,000 career point milestone.
On Saturday, Fairfield will produce an ESPN3 doubleheader at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The Stags women’s team faces Siena at noon, and the men’s team takes on Saint Peter’s at 2 p.m.
The MAAC broadcast package wraps up on Sunday, Feb. 22, with a doubleheader in New Rochelle, New York. The Iona women’s team will host top-ranked and unbeaten in conference play, Quinnipiac, at 1 p.m., followed by the Iona men’s team facing Monmouth at 4 p.m. Both games will air on ESPN3. In the first meeting between Iona and Quinnipiac women, the Bobcats picked up an 85-74 home win on Feb. 9 to extend their perfect MAAC record to 13-0. Iona and Monmouth men last met on Dec. 7 in both programs’ first league game of 2014-15, where the Hawks prevailed, 92-89, over the Gaels.
The 2015 season culminates at the 2015 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York March 5-9. Tickets for the championships are available online at ticketmaster.com.
