Iona Wins Regular Season Crown and Clinches Top Seed in the 2015 Men's Basketball Championship

EDISON, N.J. – The Iona College Gaels claimed the 2015 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season title, and clinched the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming 2015 MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship.
The Gaels earned the title by defeating Monmouth University, 69-68, on ESPN3 at the Hynes Center in New Rochelle, New York, on Sunday evening to improve their home record to a perfect 12-0 and extend their current win streak to 10 games. The regular season crown is the second consecutive, and third in the last four seasons, for Tim Cluess’ Gaels.
Iona improves to 16-2 in the MAAC, and 23-6 overall with two regular season games remaining on the schedule.
The Gaels have appeared in back-to-back MAAC title games against rival Manhattan, falling in 2014 and claiming the crown in 2013. Iona also appeared in the 2011 championship game, losing to Saint Peter’s and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2012. Iona has appeared in 13 MAAC title games and has won eight league crowns, with both being more than any other league school.
The 2015 season culminates at the 2015 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York March 5-9. Tickets for the championships are available online at ticketmaster.com.
