Player of the Week

Val Driscoll, Quinnipiac

Gr., F/C, 6-4, Stoughton, Mass./Archbischop Williams

Val Driscoll led the Bobcats with a dominating week, averaging 18 points, 10 rebounds, 3.5 blocks, 1 steal and 1 assist per game across an undefeated 2-0 week for Quinnipiac. She posted back-to-back double-doubles for the first time in her career, a career-high 22 points in Sunday’s win over Iona and also shot 57.1 percent from the floor (12-for-21) and an incredible 92.3 percent (12-for-13) at the free throw line. Coming into the season as a career 34 percent free throw shooter, Driscoll has been a marvel in her first year as a Bobcat as she is shooting 73.3 percent for the season at the charity stripe. Driscoll started the week with 14 points (4-8 FG, 6-7 FT), 10 rebounds, three blocks, two steals and two assists in an 82-52 victory over Saint Peter’s. Another impressive number to consider is Driscoll piled up all those stats across just 21 minutes of playing time. She followed that up with a career-high performance as she scored a career-best 22 points (8-13 FG, 6-6 FT) to go along with 10 rebounds and four blocks in a 79-72 comeback victory at Iona. She snatched seven offensive rebounds on the interior to control the paint and help Quinnipiac storm back from a 11-point first half deficit.

Rookie of the Week

Margot Hetzke, Siena

Fr., F, 5-11, Penfield, N.Y./Penfield

Hetzke had another monster week, averaging team-highs of 17 points, 9 rebounds and 56.5% shooting as the Saints went a perfect 2-0 with key road wins at Manhattan and Fairfield. On Thursday, she netted her third 20+ point performance of the season , pouring in 20 points on an impressive 8-11 shooting and tallied seven rebounds as the Saints defeated the Jaspers 66-51 to clinch the program’s first winning season and most wins in 11 years. On Saturday, Hetzke recorded her fifth double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and adding 11 rebounds as the Saints earned a signature road win at third place Fairfield, 54-47. Hetzke delivered the decisive blow in the game, draining a three from the top of the key to put Siena up by five with just 1:42 remaining. Hetzke has scored 377 points so far this season – the fifth most by a freshman in program history – and once again played a major role in leading the Saints to their 10th and 11th road wins of the season over the weekend, which is tied for the third most nationally.
