Offensive Player of the Week
Erin Pugh, Iona
So., Midfield, 5-10, Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh
Sophomore Erin Pugh recorded six goals, along with three ground balls and forced four turnovers in Iona's first two contests of the season. Pugh opened the season with four goals, two caused turnovers and two ground balls in a, 15-5, win over Sacred Heart. Pugh then added two more goals against Central Connecticut State in the team's home opener.
Defensive Player of the Week
Katie Donohoe, Monmouth
Sr., GK, 5-8, Peterborough, Ontario/Holy Cross Catholic Seminary
Donohoe backstopped the Hawks to another home win last week, this time downing Drexel 5-2. The senior made five saves in the contest, including three in the second half. Always active in the field, Donohoe had two caused turnovers and a three ground balls as Monmouth moved to 2-0 for the first time since 2008. In two games this season, Donohoe has allowed just five total goals. The win over the Dragons was Monmouth’s over a Colonial Athletic Association opponent.
Rookie of the Week
Pamela Giordano, Iona
Fr., Midfield, 5-8, Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West
Freshman Pamela Giordano tallied four goals and five points overall for the Gaels this past week. Giordano opened her collegiate career with a three goal, one assist effort in a 15-5 win over Sacred Heart. Giordano followed the effort up with another goal, along with two caused turnovers and two groundballs in Iona's contest with Central Connecticut State.
