Defensive Player of the Week
Jason Weber, Detroit
So., Goalie, 5-11, Whitby, Ontario/Christ School
Sophomore goalie Jason Weber was up to the task in getting Detroit its first-ever win over Ohio State posting 14 saves and six ground balls. He made four saves in each of the second, third and fourth periods and helped start a clear numerous times that resulted in UDM going 19-of-21 in the clear game. Weber has now made double-digit saves in all 12 career games he has played in.
Rookie of the Week
Sean Birney, Detroit
Fr., Midfield, 6-1, Plymouth, Mich./Catholic Central
The younger brother of Mike Birney, a two-time All-MAAC honoree, stepped up to help Detroit take down Ohio State, a team that was receiving votes in both polls. He led UDM with three points on two goals and an assist, the only multi-goal scorer for Detroit on the day. He took just two shots in his collegiate debut and scored both of his goals in the second half.
