Canisius Sweeps the first Weekly Awards in Women's Lacrosse

Offensive Player of the Week

Tori Quinn, Canisius 

Sr., Attack, 5-3, Orangeville, Ontario/Orangeville

Tori Quinn started her senior season off with a bang, as the senior attacker led the Golden Griffins against No. 3 Syracuse on Saturday night in the Blue and Gold’s season opener. Despite losing to the Orange, the Griffs managed to put up 13 goals against one of the top teams in the nation and Quinn was a major part of that. Quinn had a team-high four goals and also recorded three assists, making her a part of seven of the Griffs 13 goals. The senior attacker also had one ground ball and one caused turnover, showing why she is one of the most dangerous attackers in the country.

Defensive Player of the Week

Sami Franco, Canisius

Jr., Defender, 5-2, Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas

The Griffs top defender of 2014 continued her success into the 2015 season. Despite losing to Syracuse on Saturday evening, Sami Franco managed to shut down one of the best attack players in the NCAA in Kayla Treanor. Franco kept the Syracuse attacker under three goals and didn’t allow her to get any assists as she face guarded her all game. Treanor only got four shots off in the game and only scored two goals in the game. Franco also recorded a ground ball in the game.

Rookie of the Week

Erica Evans, Canisius 

Fr., Midfield, 5-8, Peterborough, Ontario/St Peter’s Secondary

The Griffs had five freshmen who had significant impacts during the season opener and Erica Evans really performed at the top of her game in her first career collegiate game. Evans scored the Griffs first two goals of the game against the nationally ranked Syracuse Orange on just three shots. One of Evans goals was an unassisted goal and the other was on a free-position shot. The freshman also recorded three ground balls and had one caused turnover.
