Bowman continued her torrid start to the season, hitting .444 with three home runs and eight RBIs in three games last week. After reaching base twice in the Jaspers’ 8-4 loss to Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, she had three hits and five RBIs in a 15-6 win over Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday. Bowman had two home runs and a double against the Mountaineers, and she drove in a run in four consecutive plate appearances. Then in the Jaspers’ 8-0 win over Morgan State, Bowman belted her third home run of the day, a two-run blast to left field. She slugged 1.556 and scored four times in the three contests.
Pitcher of the Week
Delany DeMello, Rider
So., Pitcher, 5-4, Roseville, Calif./Roseville
DeMello threw a complete game, five hitter, recording four strikeouts as Rider defeated Norfolk State 8-1 on Sunday. DeMello threw only 63 pitches and the only blemish on a 1.00 era for the week was a solo home run. At the plate, DeMello batted .333 with hits in all three games and handled all four chances defensively. She also scored three runs and recorded three RBIs offensively.
Rookie of the Week
Madi Weathers, Canisius
Fr., Pitcher, 5-4, Westminster, Calif./Fountain Valley
Canisius freshman Madi Weathers went 2-1 with a 2.33 ERA and 13 strikeouts last week as the Golden Griffins went 3-2 at the Michelle Smith Spring Break Tournament in Clearwater, Fla. Weathers went the distance and struck out four while allowing just one run on five hits as the Griffs defeated UMass 2-1 March 14, the program’s first win over UMass since May 8, 1993. On March 15, Weathers threw a complete-game and fanned seven as Canisius came from behind to defeat Hartford 4-3 in eight innings. In three starts last week, she allowed a total of 16 hits, but only four of those were for extra bases, and she currently leads the team with three wins in the circle this season.
