Defensive Player of the Week

Kayla Scully, Canisius

Sr., Goalkeeper, 5-4, Rodman, N.Y./South Jefferson

Since regaining her starting position in goal for the Griffs, senior Kayla Scully has led the team to four-straight victories and back to a .500 record on the season. Scully has been a brick wall in goal for Canisius, allowing only 5 goals during the week, including only one to MAAC foe, Manhattan, on March 28. Against Delaware on March 25, Scully held the high-powered Blue Hens’ offense to just four goals in the first half and went on to shut out the visitors in the final 30 minutes of regulation, recording nine saves in the process. On Saturday against Manhattan, Scully shut out the Jaspers for the first 42 minutes of action and only allowed one goal, en route to the 10-1 victory. The senior also recorded nine saves for the second consecutive game and got her fourth victory of the season.

Rookie of the Week

Erica Evans, Canisius

Fr., Midfield, 5-8, Peterborough, Ontario/St Peter’s Secondary

Freshman Erica Evans has continued her strong first year in the Blue and Gold uniform, helping lead the Griffs to two more victories this week over Delaware (March 25) and MAAC rival Manhattan (March 28). Against Delaware at the Demske Sports Complex, Evans continued her scoring tear, netting three goals on three shots to lead the Griffs to an 8-4 victory. Against Manhattan, Evans was a little quieter scoring only one goal on four shots, but still played a key role in the victory over the MAAC foe. This season Evans has 17 goals on 33 shots, which is third-best on the Griffs team.
