Player of the Week

Abby Carpenter, Siena

Sr., INF, 5-8, Bristow, Va./Brentsville District

In the Saints MAAC-opening game Sunday Carpenter was a key to the Saints’ offensive explosion. In two games against Saint Peter’s she went 3-5, scoring four runs with six RBI’s and one home run, which was a grand slam. In the Saint’s 20-11 win over Saint Peter’s in the first game, Carpenter went 2-4 scoring three runs with six RBI’s and one grand slam home run. The six RBI’s helped the Saints score their most runs since they scored 22 in 2004.

Pitcher of the Week

Sydney Underhill, Monmouth

So., Pitcher, 5-10, Temecula, Calif./Chaparral

Underhill pitched in all three games for the Hawks this week, earning Monmouth’s first-ever win against Princeton in 10 tries, taking the Game 1 loss to Rider before earning the save in Game 2. Against the Tigers, Underhill settled down after the first inning to retire 10 straight Princeton batters. All told, she went the distance, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits and one walk, while striking out four in seven innings. She also started Game 1 at Rider, allowing just three unearned runs in defeat. She scattered three hits and two walks, while striking out two. Entering into a bases-loaded jam in the sixth in Game 2 at Rider, Underhill surrendered a home run, but ended the game with six-straight groundouts. For the week, Underhill pitched to a 0.93 ERA.

Rookie of the Week

Paige Hess, Siena

Fr., INF, 5-7, Gilbert, Ariz./Campo Verde

Hess continued her dominating start to her collegiate career, recording arguably her best game to date. In two wins against Saint Peter’s Hess went 5-8, with four runs, seven RBI’s, two home runs and one double. In the Saints’ 20-11 win in game one, Hess went 4-5, scoring three runs and knocking in seven on two home runs and a double. Hess is now second on the team in batting average and hits for a Saints team that has 30 more hits than its opponents.
