Marist Outlasts Saint Peter's in MAAC Championship Quarterfinals

ALBANY, N.Y. – Marist senior center Tori Jarosz guided the Red Foxes past the Peacocks recording a double-double scoring 19 points and adding 13 rebounds. In the quarterfinal matchup, No. 2 Marist defeated to the No. 10 Saint Peter’s 62-57 Friday night in the 2015 MAAC Women's Basketball Championship.
Madeline Blais connected for 17 points and nine rebounds, going seven for eight in free throws. Sydney Coffey added 16 points and shot perfect from beyond the arc and from the charity stripe.
Marist began the game with a 5-0 run by way of free throws. Saint Peter’s took their first lead of the game at the 10:25 mark opening the score 10-9 on a Hala Mostafa layup. The Peacocks led by as many as six points in the next four minutes, before the Red Foxes came back to tie the game 18-18 on free throws from Katherine Fogarty. There were two more ties before halftime where Saint Peter’s took a two point lead with two seconds remaining on a layup from Talah Hughes. Saint Peter’s came out of the half with a seven point lead in the first three minutes 32-25. Brittini Lai’s jumper at the 12:02 mark brought Marist within two points, allowing the Red Foxes to force two ties and take the lead at 9:27 on a layup by Jarosz for a 42-40 score. Marist would take an eight point lead on a trey by Blais at 7:08, but Saint Peter’s would again tie the contest at 57-57 with 1:06 left to play. A layup from Jarosz with 0:48 remaining in the game would seal the game for Marist, finishing 62-57.
Antonia Smith would finish with 18 points, three rebounds and four assists, while Sajanna Bethea contributed 16 points and 14 rebounds for the double-double.
Marist will face the winner of Niagara and Fairfield in the semifinals on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
